Since MS decided to make the Desktop space second class, S+ cannot invoke the Task Switcher (Control+Alt+Tab) nor send Alt+Tab keys to switch apps. This is not isolated to S+, other utilities which are not written in WinRT appear to experience the same problem.

So it would seem acPreviousApplication() [like Alt+Tab] or acNextApplication() [like Alt+Shift+Tab] will have to do for now. The only other thing I can think of would be to find some Task Switching utility that lets you assign a hot key to pull up and acSendKeys the hot key.

I've tested this program in Windows 8:

...then setup an action to open the task list:

acSendKeys("@{F12}")

Just an example using one app, I'm sure there are plenty others.

Just a follow up, now that I've upgraded to Windows 8 (just to support S+ users, see how dedicated I am!).

It turns out that it is not a matter of platform, rather it's a security restriction relating to UI access. It is technically possible to make S+ work with the Alt+Tab list, but in the end it's not really worth it:

- StrokesPlus.exe must be signed AND in a restricted location (\Windows, \Program Files)
- Signing is expensive for me to do, or a huge pain for you to self sign every release.

So, I'm still recommending the use of a separate utility to facilitate this functionality if needed.

See this post for making S+ work better with Windows 8:

If you run with the signed version of S+ installed under Program Files, S+ can work with Windows 8 screens as well as programs running as admin; without S+ having to run as admin itself.
