This has been addressed many times before (and occurs for StrokeIt as well). The problem is that once you click into and activate the YouTube video, it gains control of all (well most) keyboard input. The only way is to click outside the video player so it no longer has focus, otherwise the video player will consume the F5 keystroke (it gets consumed by the player, so the web browser is unaware F5 was pressed).

There's no easy way to find where the white, non-clickable space on a web page is located.
I did make a script which clicks in the middle of a page at the far edge, but it may not always work 100%. You could probably tweak the script, to check for the web browser title, if you're on the YouTube site, it clicks in a certain area that is always known to be empty.

Hi! I use a Greasemonkey script to mark pages that have Flash or other keyboard-stealing plug-ins, then I use an Autohotkey script to click on the address bar only for those pages. I find the address bar to be the safest and most reliable place to click on.
One other thing: there is a now a very good extension for Firefox called Focus Regainer that allows certain key combinations to break out of Flash. F5 is not one of those, but it also has a special combination that does nothing by itself but break free from Flash; then you can follow up with the hotkey you need. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/focus-regainer/?src=search |
